In the book of Hosea, Hosea said after his wife Gomer, “had weaned Loruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son. Then said God, Call his name Loammi: for you are not my people, and I will not be your God. Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, you are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, you are the sons of the living God”, and in chapter one and verse eleven Hosea said, “then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together” where we read,
Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together,
and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land:
for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
The verse begins, “Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, ...” Hosea began with the words, “then shall the children” which means “at that time will the offspring” “of Judah” or “belonging to Judah whose name means praised and was the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan after the nation split upon the death of Solomon” “and the children of Israel” which means “and the offspring belonging to Israel whose name means God prevails and refers to the name used and given to the northern kingdom consisting of the ten tribes under Jeroboam” (See 1 Kings 12) “be gathered together” or “collected and assembled with one another”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said the nations of Judah and Israel would be united.
The verse continues, “... and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land:” Hosea added the words, “and appointed themselves” or “and put, set, fix and establish to their own selves” “one head” which means “a single and certain chief or leader”, “and they shall come up” or “and they, the nations of Judah and Israel will ascend, spring up and shoot forth”, “out of the land” which means “be separate and apart from the territory, region, district and country”. Hosea shared how the nations of Judah and Israel would designate a single leader as they ascend from the territory and region from which they have been held captive.
Finally the verse says, “for great shall be the day of Jezreel.” Hosea ended this verse with the words, “for great shall be the day” or “because, since and on account that great in number and intensity will exist the time and season” “of Jezreel”which means “belonging to Jezreel whose name means God sows or scatters and was the son of Hosea”. Hoses ended this verse by saying the time for the scattering of the people in “Jezreel” will be great in intensity.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how the people of Israel were indeed to be scattered throughout the world, but they would also unite with one another. “Judah” and “Israel” were to one nation as they were before they split following the reign of Solomon, and not only would they appoint one person to be the chief over them, they would acknowledge their time at “Jezreel”, this scattering, as one that brought them back together. God loves the nation of Israel, and He has always wanted a close personal relationship with them. He loves us as well, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, regardless of where we are located, He provided a way for us to be forgiven of our sins and to have eternal life with Him. Let all who read these words carefully observe God's love for us and Israel and yield themselves to Jesus Christ as “Savior and Lord”.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see Hosea share how the LORD declares, “say you unto your brethren Ammi, and to your sisters, Ruhamah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
