In the book of Proverbs Lemuel asked, “Who can find a virtuous woman? … She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff”, and in chapter thirty one and verse twenty of Proverbs King Lemuel said, “she stretches out her hand to the poor” where we read,
She stretches out her hand to the poor;
yes, she reaches forth her hands to the needy.
The verse begins, “She stretches out her hand to the poor;” Lemuel began with the words, “she stretches out her hand” or “she, the virtuous woman, spreads out and extends her physical hand” “to the poor” which means “to people who are in want, in need, destitute and impoverished” . Lemuel said “the virtuous woman” extends her physical hand toward people who are impoverished.
The verse continues, “yes, she reaches forth her hands to the needy.” Lemuel added the words, “yes, she reaches forth her hands” or “even so and indeed, she, the virtuous woman, extends and directs her physical hands” “to the needy” which means “toward people who are oppressed and abused”. Lemuel affirmed that “the virtuous woman” also extends her physical hands to people who are afflicted and abused.
When we meditate upon Lemuel's words in this verse, we learn how “the virtuous woman” also extends her physical hand toward people who are impoverished, and she stretches out her hands to help people who are afflicted. God loves to put these characteristics within us, and He does so when we believe and trust in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of everyone. God will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a compassion and willingness to bless and give aid to the “poor” and afflicted in the world. (See Matthew 25:31-40)
Next time Lemuel says, “she is not afraid of the snow”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
