The Words of King Lemuel - Proverbs 31:1

In the book of Proverbs the writer said, “Surely the churning of milk brings forth butter, and the wringing of the nose brings forth blood: so the forcing of wrath brings forth strife”, and in chapter thirty one and verse one of Proverbs we see, “the words of King Lemuel” where we read,

The words of king Lemuel,

and the prophecy that his mother taught him.

The verse begins, The words of king Lemuel, ... The writer began with the words, “the words” or “the utterances, speeches and declarations” “of king Lemuel” which means “belonging to the royal ruler and leader whose name was Lemuel which means for God and is the name of an unknown king to whom his mother addressed the prudential maxims contained in some of the Proverbs” . The writer referred to the declarations and sayings of “king Lemuel” who was possibly Solomon or an unknown king.

The verse continues, “... and the prophecy that his mother taught him. The writer added the words, “and the prophecy” or “and the inspired utterance, pronouncement or oracle” “that his mother” which means “that his, king Lemuel's, immediate female progenitor or ancestor” “taught him” or “instructed, disciplined and admonished to him, king Lemuel”. The writer said these words were the inspired pronouncements which were admonished to king Lemuel by his “mother”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through the writer that this chapter contains the inspired words that were given to “king Lemuel” by his “mother”. God inspired these words, and we should pay close attention to the words “king Lemuel's” mother gave to her son. God loves us, and He desires to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us through His Holy Spirit concerning the value of every word in the Bible.

Next time we see the questions Lemuel's mother asked, “What, my son? And what, the son of my womb?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
