Gomer Conceives Again - Hosea 1:6

In the book of Hosea, “the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel. And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel”, and in chapter one and verse six of Hosea, Hosea said his wife Gomer, “conceived again, and bare a daughter” where we read,

And she conceived again, and bare a daughter.

And God said unto him, Call her name Loruhamah:

for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.

The verse begins, “And she conceived again, and bare a daughter.” Hosea began with the words, “and she conceived again” which means “and she, Gomer, became pregnant and was with child another time”, “and bare a daughter” or “and birthed or brought forth a female offspring and progeny”. Hosea shared how his wife Gomer became pregnant again and birthed a female child.

The verse continues, “And God said unto him, Call her name Loruhamah:” Hosea added the words, “and God said unto him” or “and the Supreme Deity Jehovah God uttered, declared and proclaimed to him, Hosea”, “Call her name Loruhamah” which means “cry out, proclaim and publish her, the daughter's title, designation and label Loruhamah which means no mercy or not pitied”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God instructed him to name his daughter “no mercy” which implies that she would not have pity from her father or know who her father is.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Hosea's wife became pregnant and birthed a daughter. It is interesting to note that this time it does not declare that this was Hosea's child, and this may imply that this pregnancy was from a relationship outside of marriage. Similar to the way Israel abandoned Jehovah God, Gomer abandoned Hosea. God wants to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of keeping our commitment to Him and not abandoning Him like the nation of Israel who obtained “no mercy”.

Next time Hosea shares how the LORD says, “I will have mercy upon the house of Judah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
