Breaking the Bow of Israel - Hosea 1:5

In the book of Hosea, Hosea, “ took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim” as his wife, “which conceived, and bare him a son. And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel”, and in chapter one and verse five of Hosea, Hosea said, “I will break the bow of Israel” where we read,

And it shall come to pass at that day,

that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.

The verse begins, “And it shall come to pass at that day, ...” Hosea began with the words, “and it shall come to pass”which means “and it will happen, occur, arise and appear” “at that day” or “within that period of time” according to the following. Hosea said the following would occur at that particular period of time.

The verse goes on to say, “.... that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.” Hosea continued with the words, “that I will break the bow” or “that I, Jehovah God, shall violently rend, wreck and crush the bending archers' bow for shooting arrows” “of Israel” which means “belonging to Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name used and given to the northern kingdom consisting of the ten tribes under Jeroboam” “in the valley of Jezreel” or “within the vale, lowland or open country belonging to Jezreel whose name means God scatters”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God declared that he would violently crush the bending archers bow belonging to the nation of “Israel” within the lowland of the city of “Jezreel”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see learn through Hosea how his first son's name, “Jezreel” would share Jehovah God's prophetic determination to destroy the military power of  “Israel” within the lowland known by the name of “Jezreel”. God wants people to follow Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind so we coul have a personal relationship with Him. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring us into alignment with His ways even as He did with the nation of“Israel”, but woe be to us even as it was with Israel if we refuse His great offer of salvation.

Next time Hosea's wife, “conceived again, and bare a daughter”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
