Giving Her Vineyards - Hosea 2:15

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said of the nation of Israel, “I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she has burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers and forgot me, says the LORD. Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her”, and in chapter two and verse fifteen of Hosea, Hosea said, “I will give her vineyards from there” where we read,

And I will give her her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope:

and she shall sing there, and in the days of her youth,

and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

The verse begins, “And I will give her her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope:” Hosea began with the words, “and I will give her her vineyards from there” or “and I, Jehovah God, shall grant, bestow and supply to her, the nation of Israel, gardens for growing fruit bearing vines”, “and the valley of Achor” which means “and the vale, lowland and open country belonging to Achor whose name means trouble or disturbance where Achan and his family were stoned (See Joshua 7:25-26)” “for a door of hope” or “to use as an opening, doorway and entrance pertaining to expectation and things longed for”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God promised to grant to Israel “gardens of fruit bearing vines” within the wilderness and vale which was known as “Achor” which would cause them to be in expectancy from Him.

The verse goes on to say, “and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, ...” Hosea continued with the words, “and she shall sing there” or “and she, the nation of Israel, will make music with their voices in the wilderness turned to vineyards”, “as in the days” which means “similar and in likeness to the time and periods” “of her youth” or “belonging to when Israel was young and in her early life”. Hosea shared how the nation of Israel would use their voices to make music in the restored wilderness similar to the way they were in their early establishment.

Finally the verse says, “... and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.” Hosea ended this verse with the word, “and as in the day” or “and similar and in likeness to the period or division of time” “when she came up” which means “that she, the nation of Israel, arose” “out of the land of Egypt” or “separate and apart from the country, territory, district and region belonging to Egypt whose name means land of the Copts and is a country at the northeastern section of Africa, adjacent to Palestine and through which the Nile flows”. Hosea concluded this verse with a reference to the singing and rejoicing that was performed by the nation of Israel when they were rescued from “Egypt”. (See Exodus 15)

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how Jehovah God was to restore the nation of Israel to the state they were in when they sang in merriment. Even though they would be banished to the “wilderness”area, they would have gardens of fruit bearing vines within them. God loves the people of Israel, and even as He has brought them back to their land and restored them, He will do the same for anyone who yields their life to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us life in our “wilderness” that will make us rejoice and sing in worship to Him.

Next time Hosea says, “you shall call me Ishi”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
