In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said of the nation of Israel, “she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal”, and in chapter two and verse nine of Hosea, Hosea said, “therefore will I return, and take away my corn” where we read,
Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.
The verse begins, “Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, ...” Hosea began with the words, “therefore will I return” or “for this reason, wherefore and on this account then shall I, Jehovah God, turn or come back”, “and take away my corn” which means “and remove my, Jehovah God's, wheat or grain” “in the time thereof” or “within the appointed, sacred and specific season or period”, “and my wine in the season thereof” which means “and my, Jehovah God's, fruit of the vine within the appointed, sacred and specific time or period”. Hosea said Jehovah God declared that He would come back and remove His grain and fruit of the vine at an appointed time.
The verse continues, “... and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.” Hosea added the words, “and will recover my wool” or “and shall rescue, save, strip and plunder my, Jehovah God's, shaggy white wool” “and my flax” which means “and Jehovah God's linen or fibre used for material for garments” “given to cover her nakedness” or “granted and provided to conceal and hide her, Gomer and the nation of Israel's, nudity, shame and exposure”. Hosea said Jehovah God would plunder His whited wool and linen to conceal and hide the nudity of the nation of Israel.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover how Hosea desired to rescue his wife Gomer even as Jehovah would save the nation of Israel. God promised to remove His provision for Israel like Hosea would for his wife Gomer because His and Hosea's desire was to rescue their spouses. God loves people, and even when they have abandoned Him, He continues to provide for them and will save them when they surrender to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire for Him above all other passions made available in the world.
Next time Hosea says, “now will I discover her lewdness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
