Causing Her Mirth to Cease - Hosea 2:11

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said of the nation of Israel, “now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of my hand”, and in chapter two and verse eleven of Hosea, Hosea said, “I will also cause all her mirth to cease” where we read,

I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days,

her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.

The verse begins, “I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, ...” Hosea began with the words, “I will also cause all her mirth” or “I, Jehovah God, shall even so and indeed will bring about and make each, every, the whole and everyone of her, the nation of Israel's, exultations, rejoicings and delights” “to cease” which means “to be exterminated, destroyed, removed and put to an end”, “her feast days” or “her, the nation of Israel's, festival-gatherings or pilgrim feasts”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God declared that He would put to an end every rejoicing and festival-gathering that were within the nation of Israel.

The verse continues, “... her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.” Hosea added the words, “her new moons” or “her, the nation of Israel's, first days of the lunar month”, “and her sabbaths” which means “and her, the nation of Israel's, intermissions and days of atonement”, “and all her solemn feasts” or “and each, every, the whole and everyone of the nation of Israel's appointed and sacred festivals”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God would also put to an end the nation of Israel's “festival-feasts” including the feasts held during the “new moons, the sabbaths” and every one of their “sacred festivals”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Hosea was told to share how Jehovah God would remove from the nation of Israel every reason for them to rejoice along with their “feasting days” which followed the time of the “new moons, the sabbaths and other times when a sacred feast” was to occur. God wanted the people of Israel to be in a personal relationship with Him even as He wants the same for us. When we abandon Him and His ways, our religious practices are in vain, and He will remove them from our lives if we do not follow them in sincerity and awe. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we have faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to truly worship Him and not just to follow religious practices.

Next time Hosea says, “I will destroy her vines and her fig trees”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
