In the book of Hosea, Hosea wrote, “the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto you a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land has committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD. So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son”, and in chapter one and verse four of Hosea, Hosea said, “and the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel” where we read,
And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel;
for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu,
and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
The verse begins, “And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel;” Hosea began with the words, “and the LORD”which means “and Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God” “said unto him” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed to him, Hosea”, “call his name Jezreel” which means “cry out, proclaim and publish his, Hosea's son's, title, designation and label Jezreel which means God sows or scatters and was the first son of Hosea”. Hosea was instructed by Jehovah God to name His first son “Jezreel” or “God sows or scatters”.
The verse continues, “for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, ...” Hosea added the words, “for yet a little while” or “because, since and on account still, again and besides a small amount of time”, “and I will avenge the blood” which means “and I, Jehovah God shall attend to, muster, punish and appoint the bloodshed” “of Jezreel” or “belonging to Jezreel whose name means God sows” “upon the house of Jehu” which means “on the dwelling place, abode and habitation belonging to Jehu whose name means Jehovah is He and was the king of the northern kingdom of Israel who overthrew the dynasty of Omri and Ahaz”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God told him a small amount of time would pass and He would attend to and bring revenge upon the bloodshed within the city of “Jezreel” (See 1 Kings 15-16) which was perpetrated by the dwelling place belonging to the royal family of “Jehu”.
Finally the verse says, “and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.” Hosea concluded this verse with the words, “and will cause to cease” or “and shall desist, put to an end and exterminate” “the kingdom” which means “the dominion, reign and sovereignty” “of the house of Israel” or “pertaining to the dwelling place, habitation and abode belonging to Israel whose name means God prevails and revers to the northern kingdom consisting of the ten tribes under Jeroboam”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God would exterminate the dominion belonging to the dwelling place or nation of “Israel”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Hosea was instructed by Jehovah God to name his first son “God scatters” because God was going to bring revenge for the city named “Jezreel” where Jehu brought his greatest acts of cruelty upon the people there. God would scatter Israel some time after these attacks, and bring about judgment upon those who perpetrated these vicious acts. God loves Israel, and He loves us as well. He proved His love to us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and drive away all the spiritual foes who desire to condemn us for all eternity.
Next time Hosea says, “I will break the bow of Israel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
