In the book of Proverbs Lemuel asked, “Who can find a virtuous woman? … She stretches out her hand to the poor; yes, she reaches forth her hands to the needy”, and in chapter thirty one and verse twenty-one of Proverbs King Lemuel said, “she is not afraid of the snow” where we read,
She is not afraid of the snow for her household:
for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
The verse begins, “She is not afraid of the snow for her household:” Lemuel began with the words, “she is not afraid” or “she, the virtuous woman, does not exist with fear, anxiety and dread” “of the snow” which means “on account of the white snow from the sky” “for her household” or “on behalf of her, the virtuous woman's, dwelling place, habitation and shelter”. Lemuel said “the virtuous woman” has no fear or dread toward the white winter snow on behalf of her home.
The verse goes on to say, “for all her household are clothed with scarlet.” Lemuel continued with the words, “for all her household” or “because, since and on account that each, every, the whole and everyone of the people within her, the virtuous woman's, dwelling place, habitation and shelter” “are clothed with scarlet” which means “exist as dressed and arrayed by the use of crimson which comes from the insect coccus ilicis' whereby the dried body of the female yielding coloring matter is produced from which is made the dye used for cloth to color it scarlet or crimson”. Lemuel said “the virtuous woman” uses the scarlet color produced from the coccus ilicis to make clothing for her household.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Lemuel that “the virtuous woman's” family are arrayed with clothing that is colored in scarlet. God created the insect that upon death produces this “scarlet” color, and we can only imagine how many of them it takes to produce enough dye to clothe a family. “The virtuous woman” demonstrates her love to her family through her work, and in the same way Jesus showed his love to the world by shedding His blood upon the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a passion to clothe as many as will in His scarlet covering for every sin they have ever committed.
Next time Lemuel says, “she makes herself coverings of tapestry”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
