In the book of Proverbs Agur said, “For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which I cannot bear. For a servant when the reigns; and a fool when he is filled with meat. For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress”, and in chapter thirty and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Agur shared about, “four things which are little upon the earth” where we read,
There be four things which are little upon the earth,
but they are exceeding wise.
The verse begins, “There be four things which are little upon the earth,” Agur began with the words, “there be four things” or “four items or objects exist” “which are little” which means “that are small, insignificant and unimportant” “upon the earth” or “in the land, country, territory, district, region and world. Agur said four insignificant and small items or objects are within the world.
The verse continues, “but they are exceeding wise.” Agur added the words, “but they are” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, the four insignificant items exist as” “exceeding wise” which means “exceptionally and prodigiously skilled, shrewd and prudent”. Agur said the small and insignificant objects exist as exceptionally prudent and skilled.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Agur that he has another list of “four objects” that he considered. These are small insignificant objects, but we shall not only see that they are creations of God, but they also have been given wonderful skills by Him. God is an all-knowing and all-powerful Creative God, and He loves all of us. His desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to value every living creature that He has made upon the earth even when they are small.
Next time Agur says, “the ants are a people not strong”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
