In the book of Proverbs Lemuel's mother asked, “What my son? And what, the son of my womb? And what, the son of my vows?”, and in chapter thirty one and verse three of Proverbs King Lemuel's mother said, “Give not your strength unto women” where we read,
Give not your strength unto women,
nor your ways to that which destroys kings.
The verse begins, “Give not your strength unto women, ...” Lemuel's mother began with the words, “give not your strength” or “do not grant, bestow and put forth your, Lemuel's, might, power, efficiency and wealth” “unto women”which means “to female human beings”. Lemuel's mother told him not to bestow his power, efficiency or wealth to female human beings.
The verse continues, “... nor your ways to that which destroys kings.” Lemuel added the words, “nor your ways” or “no and not in any way your, Lemuel's, journey, path, manner and direction” “to that which destroys kings” which means “to ways which wipe out, obliterate and exterminate royal leaders and rulers”. Lemuel's mother told him not to allow his manner and direction to be like that which causes royal rulers and leaders to be obliterated.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Lemuel's mother instructed him not to bestow His wealth and might to “women”, and he was not to allow himself to follow the path which obliterates royal rulers. This was good advice to her son, and God gives us the same counsel through these words. God wants us to be in a personal intimate relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide us with his “wise ways” through His Holy Spirit so we know what to do with our efficiency, wealth and journeys.
Next time Lemuel's mother says, “it is not for kings to drink wine”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
