In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said to the nation of Israel, “you are the sons of the living God, then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel”, and in chapter two and verse one Hosea said, “say you unto your brethren Ammi, and to your sisters, Ruhamah” where we read,
Say you unto your brethren, Ammi;
and to your sisters, Ruhamah.
The verse begins, “Say you unto your brethren, Ammi;” Hosea began with the words, “say you unto your brethren”which means “utter, declare and proclaim to your, Hosea's, kinsman, kindred, compatriots and country-men”, “Ammi” or “you are my people”. Hosea was instructed to address his fellow country-men who were his people.
The verse goes on to say, “and to your sisters, Ruhamah.” Hosea continued with the words, “and to your sisters” or “and toward your, Hosea's, female siblings”, “Ruhamah” which means “you have received mercy”. Hosea was to also declare “mercy” to his female compatriots.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God instructed Hosea to address the people of “Ammi”and “Ruhamah” or “you are my people” and “you have received mercy”. These are a reference to the children who were originally named “Loammi” and “Loruhamah” which means “not my people” and “no mercy”. God loves the nation of Israel, and even when they turned aside from Him like Hosea's wife Gomer, He cared for them. God loves us as well, and even though we have turned against Him with our sins, when we yield our lives to Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins to become our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us that we who were not His people have become His family through His mercy and grace.
Next time Hosea says, “plead with your mother , plead”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
