The Spider - Proverbs 30:28

In the book of Proverbs Agur said, “There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise. The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer. The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks; The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands”, and in chapter thirty and verse twenty-eight of Proverbs Agur shares about, “the spider” where we read,

The spider takes hold with her hands,

and is in kings' palaces.

The verse begins, The spider takes hold with her hands, ... Agur began with the words, “the spider” or “the insect known as a spider or possibly a lizard” “takes hold” which means “skillfully grasps or catches” “with her hands” or “by the use of her, the spider or lizard's, physical hands”. Agur referred to the spider or lizard that grasps objects with their physical hands.

The verse continues, “... and is in kings' palaces. Agur added the words, “and is in kings'” or “and exists within royal leaders and rulers'” “palaces” which means “temples, naves, sanctuaries or large public buildings”. Agur said the spider or lizard exists within the large dwelling places of royal rulers and leaders.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Agur about the wisdom of the “spider” or “lizard” which grasps objects with it's physical hands, and they make their abode within royal leaders' homes. In other words, “spiders”and lizards are not limited in where they reside. God gave them this ability, and He grants wisdom to many of His creatures. He wants us to be aware of these “small things” and their “wise ways” so we will learn from the wisdom He has given to them. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us over and over again wise traits that He has put within His creation so we can apply His wisdom to our own lives.

Next time Agur shares about, “three things which go well, yes, four”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
