In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said of the nation of Israel, “I will give her her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt”, and in chapter two and verse sixteen of Hosea, Hosea said, “you shall call me Ishi” where we read,
And it shall be at that day, says the LORD,
that you shall call me Ishi; and shall call me no more Baali.
The verse begins, “And it shall be at that day, says the LORD, ...” Hosea began with the words, “and it shall be” or “and the following will exist” “at that day” which means “at that division and period of time”, “says the LORD” or “utters, declares and proclaims Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Hosea referred to Jehovah God projecting the following upon Israel.
The verse continues, “... that you shall call me Ishi; and shall call me no more Baali.” Hosea added the words, “that you shall call me” or “that you, Gomer and the nation of Israel, will cry out, proclaim and summon me, Hosea and Jehovah God” “Ishi” which means “husband”; “and shall call me no more” or “and will not any longer proclaim, utter and appoint me as” “Baali” which means “my lord or master”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said the nation of Israel and his wife Gomer would refer to them as “husband” and no longer “my lord and master”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see in the day of the LORD that Hosea and Jehovah God would no longer be known as “lord and master”, but would be referred to by Gomer and the nation of Israel as “husband”. In the like manner, God wants an intimate, personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring us so close to Him that we live as His intimate spouse.
Next time Hosea says, “I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
