Considering a Field and Buying It - Proverbs 31:16

In the book of Proverbs Lemuel asked, “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband does safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil … She rises also while it is yet night, and gives meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens”, and in chapter thirty one and verse sixteen of Proverbs King Lemuel said, “she considers a field, and buys it” where we read,

She considers a field, and buys it:

with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.

The verse begins, She considers a field, and buys it: Lemuel began with the words, “she considers a field” or “she, the virtuous woman, has a thought and devises a plan concerning a piece of cultivated land or property”, “and buys it” which means “and purchases the property or land”. Lemuel said “the virtuous woman” also develops a plan concerning a piece of cultivated land and purchases it.

The verse continues, “with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. Lemuel added the words, “with the fruit of her hands” or “by the use of the offspring and produce of her, the virtuous woman's, physical hands” “she plants a vineyard” which means “she, the virtuous woman, fixes and establishes a garden of vines that produce fruit”. Lemuel said “the virtuous woman” establishes a garden of fruit bearing vines by the use of her physical hands.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Lemuel how the “the virtuous woman” is industrious as she takes thought about a cultivated plot of land, purchases it and uses her physical hands to fix in place within it a garden of fruit bearing vines. This is a demonstration of a gift from God because not everyone has this acumen. God provides people with different abilities, but He gives everyone the opportunity to receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to be wise in whatever business transactions we encounter even if they are purchasing properties and establishing “vineyards” within them.

Next time Lemuel says, “she girds her loins with strength”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
