In the book of Proverbs Agur said, “There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise”, and in chapter thirty and verse twenty-five of Proverbs Agur says, “the ants are a people not strong” where we read,
The ants are a people not strong,
yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
The verse begins, “The ants are a people not strong, ...” Agur began with the words, “the ants” or “the insect known as an ant which is probably from its almost bisected form” “are a people” which means “exist as a tribe or colony” “not strong” or “that is in no way or manner mighty, fierce or powerful”. Agur referred to the “ants” as a colony that is in no way mighty or powerful.
The verse goes on to say, “... yet they prepare their meat in the summer;” Agur continued with the words, “yet they prepare their meat” or “still they make firm, stable and established their, the ants', bread, food or grain” “in the summer” which means “within the summer or dry season”. Agur referred to the way the “ants” establish their food within the summer season.
When we meditate upon Agur's words in this verse, we learn how the small insects known as “ants” are not powerful, and still, they make firm and ready their food within the summer season. This is an “exceeding wise” act on the part of the “ant”, and Agur recognized it. God has given special insight to the “ants”, and it works because the winter season will come and there will be no food to gather. In like manner, God gives insight to us through His Son Jesus whom He into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we submit to Him, we will have our sins forgiven and be granted everlasting life with Him. Let all who read these words consider the “exceeding wise” way of the “ants” and prepare for the winter season to come while there is still time to do so. (See Isaiah 55:6-7)
Next time Agur says, “the conies are but a feeble folk”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
