The Forcing of Wrath - Proverbs 30:33

In the book of Proverbs Agur said, “If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, or if you have thought evil, lay your hand upon your mouth”, and in chapter thirty and verse thirty-three of Proverbs Agur said, “the churning of milk brings forth butter … the forcing of wrath brings forth strife” where we read,

Surely the churning of milk brings forth butter,

and the wringing of the nose brings forth blood:

so the forcing of wrath brings forth strife.

The verse begins, Surely the churning of milk brings forth butter, ... Agur began with the words, “surely the churning of milk” or “because, since and on account that the squeezing, pressing and wringing the richness of the kine, sour milk or white milk” “brings forth butter” which means “delivers and produces curdled milk, cheese or butter”. Agur referred to the way pressing and wringing “white milk” produces curdled cheese or butter.

The verse goes on to say, “... and the wringing of the nose brings forth blood: Agur continued with the words, “and the wringing of the nose” or “and the pressing and forcing of the nostrils or nose on the face” “brings forth blood” which means “delivers and produces bloodshed”. Agur also referred to the way force upon the nose on the face causes it to bleed.

Finally, the verse says, “so the forcing of wrath brings forth strife”. Agur concluded with the words, “so the forcing of wrath” or “even and indeed the squeezing and pressure pertaining to anger, ire and forbearing” “brings forth strife”which means “delivers and produces controversy, disputing, quarreling and chiding”. Agur concluded this verse by saying the pressure of anger and ire produces controversy and disputing.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Agur about the controversy that comes with pressuring others with anger and ire. He used the examples of the “churning of butter” and the “wringing of the nose” to demonstrate how there is cause and effect when anger is employed. God wants us to be wise in our emotions and dealing with others. He loves us, and He proved His love to us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be wise with “anger and strife” that causes controversy to come into our lives.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see, “the words of King Lemuel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
