Hosea Married Gomer - Hosea 1:3

In the book of Hosea, Hosea wrote, “the word of the LORD that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahas, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto you a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land has committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD”, and in chapter one and verse three of Hosea, Hosea said, “he went and took Gomer the daughters of Diblaim” where we read,

So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim;

which conceived, and bare him a son.

The verse begins with the words, “So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim;” Hosea began with the words, “so he went and took Gomer” which means “therefore, for this reason and on this account he, Hosea, left, proceeded and departed and took in hand, received and procured Gomer whose name means complete or completion” “the daughter” or “the female offspring and progeny” “of Diblaim” which means “belonging to Diblaim whose name means two cakes”. Hosea shared how he obeyed the LORD's command and departed to receive the prostitute named “Gomer” as his wife.

The verse goes on to say, “which conceived, and bare him a son.” Hosea continued with the words, “which conceived” or “who, Gomer, became with child and pregnant”, “and bare him a son” which means “and birthed him, Hosea, a male offspring and progeny”. Hosea shared how his wife Gomer became pregnant and birthed a male offspring for him.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Hosea obeyed the LORD's command to marry a prostitute whose name was “Gomer”. Afterwards she became pregnant and birthed a son to Hosea, and we shall see how this event became part of God's message to Israel. For now let us concentrate upon the willingness of “Hosea” to obey God even if the request was a confusing one. God wants the best for us, and this is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and use us in His Kingdom according to His perfect plan and will even if His commands seem strange to us at the time.

Next time Hosea says, “and the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
