In the book of Proverbs Agur said, “the eye that mocks at his father, and despises to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it”, and in chapter thirty and verse eighteen of Proverbs Agur shared about, “there are three things which are too wonderful for me, yes, four” where we read,
There be three things which are too wonderful for me,
yes, four which I know not.
The verse begins, “There be three things which are too wonderful for me, ...” Agur began with the words, “there be three things” or “three objects or items exist” “which are too wonderful” which means “that exist as far too amazing, marvelous, surpassing, extraordinary and difficult” “for me” or “in favor and on behalf of me, Agur”. Agur referred to three existing objects that are far too amazing for him to comprehend.
The verse continues, “... yes, four which I know not.” Agur added the words, “yes, four” or “even os and indeed, four objects or items” “which I know not” which means “that I, Agur, in no way perceive, recognize or am acquainted with by experience”. Agur said there were four items that were beyond his perception or recognition.
When we consider Agur's words in this verse, we learn how there are three more objects which were too amazing for him to comprehend, and there are actually four objects that he does not recognize or perceive. We shall see what those objects are in our next verse, but for now let us be aware that even though these were items he did not understand, God did. God knows all, and there is nothing He can learn. He knows us, and He loves us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of every one of us, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of trusting Him with that which we do not know nor understand.
Next time Agur shares about, “the eagle, the serpent, a ship and a man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
