Locusts - Proverbs 30:27

In the book of Proverbs Agur said, “There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise. The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer. The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks”, and in chapter thirty and verse twenty-seven of Proverbs Agur shares about, “the locusts”where we read,

The locusts have no king,

yet go they forth all of them by bands;

The verse begins, The locusts have no king, ... Agur began with the words, “the locusts” or “the insects known as grasshoppers or locusts” “have no king” which means “do not have a royal ruler and leader”. Agur referred to the way “locusts” have no designated royal leader.

The verse goes on to say, “... yet go they forth all of them by bands; Agur continued with the words, “yet go they forth” or “still they, the locusts, depart, proceed and exit” “all of them” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of them, the locusts” “by bands” or “through the means of ranks or formations”. Agur said “locusts” proceed together in formations and ranks.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Agur how the wisdom of “locusts” is found in their proceeding with one another in ranks. Rather than flying alone, they march in formation. Massive swarms of “locusts”can do much damage to fields and vegetation that could never be managed while alone and singled out, and God gave them this instinct to survive. God loves His creation, and He loves us. He proved His love to us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to value the “exceeding wisdom” that is within His “little”creatures so we appreciate how much He cares for us.

Next time Agur shares about, “the spider”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
