In the book of Proverbs the writer said, “The words of king Lemuel, and the prophecy that his mother taught him”, and in chapter thirty one and verse two of Proverbs King Lemuel's mother asked, “What, my son? And what, the son of my womb?” where we read,
What my son? And what, the son of my womb?
And what, the son of my vows?
The verse begins, “What my son? And what, the son of my womb?” The writer began with the words, “what my son” or “what should I say my, Lemuel's mother's, male immediate offspring or ancestors” ?“and what, the son of my womb” which means “and what should I say, the offspring or ancestor belonging to my, Lemuel's mother's, belly or abdomen”? The writer shared how Lemuel's mother questioned him as to what she should declare.
The verse goes on to say, “And what, the son of my vows?” Lemuel continued with the words, “and what” or “and what should I say”, “the son of my vows” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to my, Lemuel's immediate female ancestor or progeny's, votive offering or promise”? The writer shared how Lemuel's mother questioned as to what she should say to him because He was her male progeny pertaining to her promise.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Lemuel's mother questioned him as to what she should declared to Him. He was the “son” not only of her “womb”, but also in keeping with her votive offerings. In other words, Lemuel's mother loved her son. God loves us too, and He proved His love by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life, and put within us a great respect for the authorities He has placed in our lives to ask “what” they should declare unto us.
Next time Lemuel's mother says, “Give not your strength unto women”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
