In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how his wife Gomer, “conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Loruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away. But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horseman”, and in chapter one and verse eight of Hosea, Hosea said when his wife, “had weaned Loruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son” where we read,
Now when she had weaned Loruhamah,
she conceived, and bare a son.
The verse begins, “Now when she had weaned Loruhamah, ...” Hosea began with the words, “now when she had weaned” which means “at the time and moment she, Gomer, dealt fully with, recompensed and requited” “Loruhamah”whose name means “no mercy or not pitied”. Hosea referred to the time that his wife Gomer had recompensed and requited “Loruhamah” from nursing.
The verse goes on to say, “... she conceived, and bare a son.” Hosea continued with the words, “she conceived” or “she, Gomer, became pregnant and was with child”, “and bare a son” which means “and birthed or brought forth a male offspring or progeny”. Hosea shared how his wife Gomer became pregnant again and brought forth a male child.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Hosea's wife Gomer finished nursing the girl brought forth by her, Loruhamah, and became pregnant again and birthed a male child. It is interesting to note that the idea of the child not being Hosea's must at least be considered because only the first child was noted for being born to him. God was using the unfaithfulness of Gomer as an illustration for how Israel was not faithful to Him, and as this story unfolds, we shall see how God continued to use Hosea as a prophet with a mission to call Israel back into a relationship with Him. God wants a personal relationship with us as well, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of understanding His commitment to Israel so His Son Jesus could come into the world with God's saving and liberating grace.
Next time Hosea says, “then said God, Call his name Loammi”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
