In the book of Proverbs Lemuel asked, “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband does safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil … She is like the merchants' ships, she brings her food from afar”, and in chapter thirty one and verse fifteen of Proverbs King Lemuel said, “she rises also while it is yet night” where we read,
She rises also while it is yet night,
and gives meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
The verse begins, “She rises also while it is yet night, ...” Lemuel began with the words, “she rises also” or “she, the virtuous woman, even so and indeed is fixed, established and standing” “while it is yet night” which means “even during the time when the nighttime hours arrive”. Lemuel said “the virtuous woman” even so and indeed stays up during the late night hours.
The verse goes on to say, “... and gives meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.” Lemuel continued with the words, “and gives meat” or “and bestows, provides and grants bread, grain and food” “to her household” which means “to her, the virtuous woman's, dwelling place, habitation, abode and home”, “and a portion” or “and a prescribed limit or amount of food” “to her maidens” which means “to her, the virtuous woman's, little girls, damsels and young servants”. Lemuel said “the virtuous woman” also makes provision for her damsels and young servants.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Lemuel how “the virtuous woman” stays up late at nighttime and provides food for her home with enough left over to share with her servant girls. God wants us to be this way, and because He loves us and demonstrated His love when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. (See Romans 5:8) when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire and passion to provide for our families as well as those who help them according to His perfect plan and will.
Next time Lemuel says, “she considers a field, and buys it”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
