I Have Loved the Habitation of Your House - Psalms 26:8

In Psalms chapter twenty-six David said, “I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked. I will wash my hands in innocency: so will I compass your altar, O LORD. That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all your wondrous works”, and in chapter twenty six and verse eight of Psalms David said, “LORD, I have loved the habitation of your house” where we read,

LORD, I have loved the habitation of your house, and the place where your honor dwells.

The verse begins, LORD, I have loved the habitation of your house, ...”. David began with the words, “LORD, I have loved” which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God, I, David, have had great affection for” “the habitation” or “the dwelling, lair and refuge” “of your house” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, shelter, abode and temple”. David told Jehovah God how he “loved” dwelling within His “house” or “temple”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and the place where your honor dwells.” David continue with the words, “and the place” or “and the post, station, locality and space” “where your honor dwells” which means “the location that your, Jehovah God's, glory, abundance, splendor and reputation tabernacles or lives”. David declared Jehovah God's “house” or “temple” to be the location of His glory, abundance and splendor.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David loved the “house of God”. He knew the “temple” was a dedicated place for Jehovah, and when he went there, God's honor, reputation and splendor was evident. Jehovah God is omnipresent, and there is no where that He does not dwell. However, He provided a “temple”, His house, where people may go to focus and give their attention to Him and His glory. In Hebrews chapter ten and verses twenty-four and twenty-five the writer says, “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day approaching.” God gave His Son Jesus to the world to die on the cross for the sins of mankind, and when we submit ourselves to Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. We have the privilege, like Jesus Himself, to regularly attend a worship center or church to enjoy the “honor, splendor and glory” of Jehovah God. (See Luke 4:16)

Next time David says, “Gather not my soul with sinners, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
