The Affliction of the Afflicted - Psalms 22:24

In Psalms chapter twenty-two David said, “You that fear the LORD, praise him; all you the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all you the seed of Israel, and in chapter twenty two and verse twenty-four of Psalms David said, “he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted” where we read,

For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;

neither has he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.

The verse begins, For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;” David began with the words, “for he has not despised” which means “because, since and on account that he, Jehovah God, has not held or regarded with contempt or as despicable” “nor abhorred” or “no and not in any way detested, made abominable, counted filthy or made detestable” “the affliction of the afflicted” which means “the adversity, hardship and trouble belonging to the poor, needy, humble and weak”. David said Jehovah God has in no way held in contempt nor detested the hardship and adversity which belongs to people who are needy, humble and weak.

The verse continues,neither has he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.” David added the words, “neither has he hid” or “no and not in any way has he, Jehovah God, concealed, kept close and made secret” “his face from him” which means “his, Jehovah God's, front and countenance to be separated and apart from the afflicted person”; “but when he cried unto him” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover at the time and moment he, the afflicted person, shouted aloud and hallooed to him, Jehovah God”, “he heard” which means “he, Jehovah God, listened, perceived, paid attention to and understood”. David said Jehovah God in no way kept His countenance unhidden from the afflicted person, and when that person shouted aloud to Him, Jehovah listened and paid attention to him.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through David how Jehovah God does not hold in contempt the adversity, hardship and trouble of people who are poor and needy. David was afflicted with affliction, and Jehovah heard him. God cares for people, and He does not keep His countenance in secret when they call out to Him. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. We may call out to Jehovah God who does not hide Himself from us when we yield to Him, and we will praise Him for all eternity for His grace and mercy offered to us.

Next time David says, “my praise shall be of you in the great congregation, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
