Brightness Before God - Psalms 18:12

In Psalms chapter eighteen David wrote about Jehovah God saying, “There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet. And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yes, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies”, and in chapter eighteen and verse twelve David said, “At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passedGod where we read,

At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.

The verse begins, At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, ... David began with the words, “at the brightness” which means “at the brilliance, light and shining” “that was before him” or “in front of, in the sight of and in the presence of Jehovah God” “his thick clouds passed” which means “Jehovah God's dense, thick and enveloping construct or shadow carried away, overflowed and traversed”. David said Jehovah God's brilliance and shining was enclosed within his enveloping construct and shadow.

The verse continues,... hail stones and coals of fire. David added the words, “hail stones” or “thunderous and great hail from the sky” “and coals of fire” which means “and burning. hot, glowing and kindled embers of supernatural fiery altar fire”. David wrote how the brightness of Jehovah God was enveloped by “thunderous hailstones and fiery burning embers” as well.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn from David how he believed Jehovah God was easily able to cover His brilliance and splendor behind shadows, hailstones and burning embers. In other words, David employed elements of God's creation to attempt to describe His ability to keep “secret” and “hidden” from those who oppose Him. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when we yield ourselves to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and watch over us even though we do not see Him. Let all praise and honor be given unto Jehovah God for His clandestine provision and protection.

Next time David says, The LORD also thundered in the heavens, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
