Sorrows Multiplied - Psalms 16:4

In Psalms chapter sixteen David wrote, “Preserve me, O God: for in you do I put my trust. O my soul, you have said unto the LORD, you are my Lord: my goodness extends not to you. But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight”, an in Psalms chapter sixteen and verse four David said, “their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god” where we read,

Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god:

their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.

The verse begins, Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: David began with the words, “Their sorrows” which means “the pains, hurts, injuries and wounds of people” “shall be multiplied” or “will be become great, numerous, increased and enlarged” “that hasten after another god” which means “who hurry, are anxious, precipitate and impetuous toward a different and strange deity”. David said people who are impetuous toward a different god than Jehovah God increase and enlarge the “pain, hurt and wounds” within their lives.

The verse goes on to say, their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. David continued with the words, “their drink offerings” or “the poured out drinks and libations that belong to those who hasten after another god” “of blood” which means “pertaining to the juice of a grape or wine” “will I not offer” or “shall I, David, in no way or manner pour out, cast forth or anoint as a libation”, “nor take up their names” which means “no and not in any way bear up, carry, support, sustain or endure the people who hasten after another god's reputation, fame or glory” “into my lips” or “within my, David's, language, speech or talk”. David said he would not cast forth or anoint as a libation the wine of the people who hasten after another god, nor would he allow the talk and speech of them to enter his voice.

When we think through words in this verse, we see how David contrasted people who are sacred, holy, powerful and great because of their relationship with Jehovah God with people who hurry and are impetuous after false gods. David purposed to involve himself in the lives of the people who followed Jehovah, and not to be a part of the lives of people who worship other things. Jehovah God wants people to be in a personal loving relationship with Him, and this is accomplished through believing and trusting in His Son Jesus. Anyone who yields to Jesus will follow the true, sacred and holy Jehovah God who desires to help them, and anyone who refuses Him will experience grievous and painful difficulties both now and eternally. Jehovah God offers everyone the opportunity to come to Him through His Son Jesus, and we may give Him praise for His provision of goodness for all eternity.

Next time David says, the LORD is the portion of my inheritance, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
