Disappoint and Cast Him Down - Psalms 17:13

In Psalms chapter seventeen David prayed to Jehovah God, “Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of your wings, from the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about. They are enclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly. They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth; Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places”, and in chapter seventeen and verse thirteen of Psalms David said, Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down” where we read,

Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is your sword:

The verse begins, Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: David began with the words, “Arise, O LORD” which means “rise up, stand, become powerful and on the scene O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “disappoint him” or “confront, anticipate, forestall and be in front of the wicked person”, “cast him down” which means “throw the wicked person to a low and prostrate position”. David told Jehovah to stand up, confront the wicked person and throw them to a lower and prostrate position.

The verse goes on to say, deliver my soul from the wicked, which is your sword: David continues with the words, “deliver my soul” or “save, cast forth, and bring into security my, David's, heart, passion, emotion and mind” “from the wicked” which means “apart and separate from the criminal, guilty, morally wrong, bad and ungodly person”, “which is your sword” or “that exists as your, Jehovah God's, knife, dagger, mattock and axe”. David asked Jehovah to bring his heart and mind into a secure place apart from the evil person who was being used as His knife or axe.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David depended upon Jehovah God to confront his enemies. He knew the LORD would rescue him from any “wicked person” who attempted to defeat him, and even when the “wicked” were used as God's instruments of correction, God was the One to “stand” against them. God loves people, and He desires to have a personal intimate relationship with everyone, and when they submit themselves to His Son Jesus, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. We can do no better than to appeal to Jehovah God for our rescue when opposition arises against us, and we will give Him praise and glory for all eternity for being our “deliverer” and defender against our foes.

Next time David asks Jehovah God to deliver him from wicked, men which are your hand, O LORD, from men of the world, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
