Psalms chapter eighteen begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spoke unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said,]]” which breaks down, “To the chief musician” or “to the overseer, preeminent and superintending choral director”, “A Psalm” which means “a melody or poem set to notes”, “of David” or “belonging to David whose name means beloved and was the second king of Israel”, “the servant of the LORD” which means “the slave, worshiper and bondman belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “who spoke unto the LORD” or “that declared, sang and appointed to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “the words of this song” which means “the speech, speaking, utterance, business and matters belonging to this particular ode or musical construct” “in the day that the LORD” or “within the time and age in which Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “delivered him” which means “snatched away, rescued and saved him, David” “from the hand of all his enemies” or “apart and separate from the power and might belonging to each, every, the whole and everyone of David's hating foes and adversaries”, “and from the hand of Saul” which means “and apart and separate from the power and might belonging to Saul whose name means desired and was a Benjamite, the son of Kish and the first king of Israel”: “And he said” or “and David uttered, declared and proclaimed”, and in chapter eighteen and verse one of Psalms David said, “I will love you, O LORD, my strength” where we read,
I will love you, O LORD, my strength.
The verse begins, “I will love you, O LORD”. David began with the words, “I will love you” which means “I, David, will be compassionate and have tender affection toward you, Jehovah God”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David declared that he would have tender affection to Jehovah God.
The verse continues, “ my strength” David added the word, “my” or “David's” “strength” which means “help, power and favor”. David said Jehovah God was responsible for his “help and favor”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David “loved” Jehovah God. He knew that Jehovah was the source of His strength, and he could depend upon Him for his might, power and favor. God desires to share His power and favor with everyone, and when we submit ourselves to His Son Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and share His favor with us forever and ever. Let us give Jehovah God the praise and honor He deserves as we make Him the “love” of our lives and the One upon whom we rely for our “strength”.
Next time David says, “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
