In Great Fear - Psalms 14:5

In Psalms chapter fourteen David asked, Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? Who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD”, and in Psalms chapter fourteen and verse five David said, there were they in great fear” where we read,

There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.

The verse begins, There were they in great fear: David began with the words, “There were they” which means “in that place the workers of iniquity existed” “in great fear” or “in trembling, reverence and great awe”. David said the people who were “workers of iniquity with no knowledge” existed in great awe, reverence and trembling.

The verse continues, for God is in the generation of the righteous. David added the words, “for God” or “because, since and on account that the royal judge, ruler and Supreme God” “is in the generation” which means “exists in the period, habitation and dwelling” “of the righteous” or “belonging to the correct, right, lawful and just”. David said the “workers of iniquity with no knowledge” were in “great awe” because the Supreme God was within the habitation and dwelling which belongs with the correct and lawful.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through David how people who work iniquity without knowledge will be in great reverence and awe because the Supreme God will be in their presence. God is omniscient, and no one exists outside His presence. Not everyone realizes this, and because they refuse to receive God's Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, their sins will not be forgiven and they remain in their sinful and condemned states. God loves people, and since He warns them in advance about working iniquity without knowledge, it should convince all who read David's words to yield to Jesus. Praise be to the Lord God Almighty for His warning and invitation to mankind, and may we all humble ourselves and surrender to His Son Jesus as we are in awe of Him.

Next time David says, You have shamed the counsel of the poor, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
