Help, LORD - Psalms 12:1

Psalms chapter twelve begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David.]]” which breaks down, “To the chief Musician” or “to the overseer, preeminent and superintending choral director” “upon Sheminith” which means “on an eight-stringed musical instrument with notation which was perhaps an octave” “A Psalm” or “a melody or poem set to notes” “of David” which means “belonging to David whose name means beloved and was the second king of Israel”, and in Psalms chapter twelve and verse one David said, Help, LORD; for the godly man ceases” where we read,

Help, LORD; for the godly man ceases; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.

The verse begins, Help, LORD; for the godly man ceases;” David began with the words, “Help, LORD” which means “Save, deliver and give victory Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”; “for the godly man” or “because, since and on account that the person whether male or female who is faithful, kind, holy and pious” “ceases” which means “comes to an end, is no more and is complete”. David plead for Jehovah God to come to His aid because people who were “kind, holy and pious” no longer existed.

The verse continues, for the faithful fail from among the children of men.” David added the words, “for the faithful” or “because, since and on account that people who support, confirm, uphold and nourish” “fail from among the children of men” which means “vanishes, disperses and disappears apart and separate from the sons, grandson or male and female offspring and prodigy of human beings”. David said people who “support, nourish and uphold” others are vanished from the offspring of people.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David called upon Jehovah God to give him “aid” because people who lived in “faithful, kind and pious” ways were no longer available. The reason for this behavior was because confirming and supportive offspring of people had vanished. In other words, faithful people were not available to “help” David in His time of need. Paul the apostle wrote, “in the last days perilous times shall come. Men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” (See 2 Timothy 3:1-5) Sometimes people are not reliable or unavailable to give us assistance when we need them, and Jehovah God reserves that place for Himself alone. Jehovah God was the only One who sent His Son Jesus to save mankind from the penalty of sin which is death. Jesus was without sin and perfect, and He took our place when He died on the cross. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. (See 2 Corinthians 5:21). Let us give praise and honor to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus who comes to our aid when all others have proved themselves unfaithful and unreliable to do so.

Next time David says, they speak vanity every one with his neighbor, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
