With Our Tongue Will We Prevail - Psalms 12:4

In Psalms chapter twelve David said, Help, LORD; for the godly man ceases, for the faithful fail from among the children of men. They speak vanity every one with his neighbor: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak. The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things, and in chapter twelve and verse four of Psalms David wrote how the wicked say, “with our tongue will we prevail” where we read,

Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

The verse begins, Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail;” David began with the words, “Who have said” which means “the wicked ungodly and unfaithful people and their offspring uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “with our tongue” or “by the use of our physical tongue for speaking words and ideas” “will we prevail” which means “will we, the ungodly and unfaithful people and their offspring, have strength, be powerful, mighty and great”. David said the people who are ungodly and unfaithful think they can use their physical tongues to speak and declare over others their ideas that are strong, powerful and mighty.

The verse goes on to say,our lips are our own: who is lord over us?” David continued with the words, “our lips” or “ the people with flattering lips and a double heart the speech, language, prating and talk” “are our own” which means “exists as our, the ungodly and unfaithful people's”: “who is lord” or “what person is the master, superintendent, king and ruler” “over us” which means “above and ruling over us ungodly and unfaithful people”? David wrote how the people with “flattering lips and tongues who speak proud things” believe their own speeches and ideas are within their own control and no one oversees or is master of their lives.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn from David how the “ungodly and unfaithful” people of whom he is referring have confidence only within themselves. They have no need for God to oversee their lives, and they think they have full control over their words and ideas. God desires to have a personal loving relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive us of our sins and grant us eternal life with Him. He will become “Lord” of our words, acts, attitudes and deeds, and we are yield them all to His direction and purpose. Praise be to the “Lord Jesus” who wants to be in our lives and unlike the “ungodly and unfaithful” we know He is “lord over us”.

Next time David says, For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, says the LORD, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
