To the Saints and Excellent - Psalms 16:3

In Psalms chapter sixteen David wrote, “Preserve me, O God: for in you do I put my trust. O my soul, you have said unto the LORD, you are my Lord: my goodness extends not to you” and in Psalms chapter sixteen and verse three David said God's goodness extends, to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, where we read,

But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

The verse begins, But to the saints that are in the earth, ... David began with the words, “But to the saints” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover toward the sacred, holy and set apart people” “that are in the earth” or “who exist within the arable land, country, territory and region”. David said that his “goodness extends” toward people who are sacred and set apart in the world.

The verse continues, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight. David added the words, “and to the excellent” or “and toward the great, majestic, mighty and powerful people”, “in whom is all my delight” which means “within who exists each, every, the whole and totality of David's pleasure, desire, longing and purpose”. David said his “goodness extends” toward people who are mighty, majestic and powerful, and “all” his pleasure and desire is within them as well.

When we meditate upon words in this verse, we see how David honored people who are sacred, set apart, great and powerful in the world, and he took pleasure in them. David understood there were people around him who were part of his success, and their “sacredness and greatness” were a key part of their help. These people were as heroes to David, and because they were dedicated to serving Jehovah God, they were an asset to him. God loves people, and He is responsible for their birth, life and sustenance even when it comes through other people. Jehovah God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of every person, and when they put their faith and trust in Him, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. This is the ultimate sacredness, greatness, holiness and purpose available to all mankind, and we may praise the LORD God for His provision to everyone.

Next time David says, Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
