Enclosed in Their Own Fat - Psalms 17:10

In Psalms chapter seventeen David prayed to Jehovah God, “Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of your wings, from the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about”, and in chapter seventeen and verse ten of Psalms David said, they are enclosed in their own fat” where we read,

They are enclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly.

The verse begins, They are enclosed in their own fat: David began with the words, “They are enclosed” which means “the wicked people are shut, closed up and imprisoned” “in their own fat” or “within their, the wicked person's, own personal abundance riches and choice part”. David said people who are “wicked” are imprisoned within their own abundance and riches.

The verse continues, with their mouth they speak proudly. David added the words, “with their mouth” or “with the wicked people's opening, orifice and extremity in their faces used for speaking and eating” “they speak proudly” which means “the wicked people utter, declare and proclaim words that are majestic, prideful and boastful”. David said “wicked” people speak boastfully with their “mouths”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover David's assessment of people who are “wicked”. Rather than having their confidence in Jehovah God, they are imprisoned by their possessions, and they speak boastfully about their independence from Him. God owns everything, and no one possesses anything that has not been provided by Him. Jehovah is all-knowing, all-powerful and everywhere present, and anything mankind has obtained comes from Him. All confidence and boasting should be given to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus who came to the world to save people from their sins; gave His life on the cross to pay the price for those sins and allows anyone who puts their faith and trust in Him to be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and watched over by Him from now unto eternity.

Next time David says, They have now compassed us in our steps, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
