Give Ear to My Prayer - Psalms 17:1

Psalms chapter seventeen begins with the heading, [[A Prayer of David.]] which breaks down, “A prayer” or “an intercession, supplication and hymn” “of David” which means “belonging to David whose name means beloved and was the second king of Israel”, and in Psalms chapter seventeen and verse one David prayed, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer where we read,

Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry,

give ear unto my prayer, that goes not out of feigned lips.

The verse begins, Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, ... David began with the words, “hear the right” which means “listen to, obey and perceive the just, righteous and covenant keeping people who enjoy salvation”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “attend unto my cry” which means “be attentive to, heed, incline, hearken and listen to my, David's, entreaty, supplication and praise”. David prayed for Jehovah God to listen to the righteous, and be attentive to his entreaty and supplication.

The verse goes on to say,... give ear unto my prayer, that goes not out of feigned lips. David continued with the words, “give ear” or “hear, listen, be obedient to and hearken” “unto my prayer” which means “to my, David's, intercession, supplication and hymn”, “that goes not out” or “that does not proceed” “of feigned lips” which means “from deceitful, false, crafty and treacherous language, speech or prating”. David instructed Jehovah God to listen to his intercession and supplication which did not proceed from crafty and deceitful speaking and language.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David was “praying” to Jehovah God, and he desired that God listen to and be attentive to him. He beckoned Jehovah to hearken to his supplication which David declared did not proceed from deceitful lips. David was passionate about God listening to him, and his appeal was that he was being honest with Him as he “prayed”. God knows our hearts. He knows our thinking, and should we attempt to be dishonest with Him, we are easily exposed. God wants people to humble themselves, repent of our sins and receive His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus died for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and listen to our “honest” prayers. Let us give Him praise, glory and honor as we discover Him hearkening to us as we pour out our hearts before Him.

Next time we see David pray, Let my sentence come forth from your presence, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
