The Heavens Bowed - Psalms 18:9

In Psalms chapter eighteen David said, “In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it”, and in chapter eighteen and verse nine David said, He bowed the heavens also, and came down” where we read,

He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.

The verse begins, He bowed the heavens also, and came down: David began with the words, “He bowed” which means “Jehovah God stretched out, turned and spread out” “the heavens also” or “the visible universe, sky and atmosphere even so and indeed”, “and came down” which means “and descended and marched downward”. David said Jehovah God spread out or opened the “heavens” above and descended to where David was.

The verse goes on to say,and darkness was under his feet. David continued with the words, “and darkness” or “and heavy and thick clouds” “was under his feet” which means “were beneath Jehovah God's paces, steps and journey”. David wrote how “heavy clouds” were under the steps of Jehovah God as He moved toward the earth on his behalf.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how mobility for Jehovah God was easy as He opened the sky, stepped out on “dark clouds” and moved toward David with them under His feet. God desires to have this type of intimate relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and come to our defense against every foe. It may seem for a time that our adversaries are victorious over us, but God is watching, and eventually He will avenge all who oppose Him and His believers. Let God be praised for His goodness and willingness to open heaven and descend upon the clouds to rescue us.

Next time David says, and he rode upon a cherub, and did fly, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
