In Psalms chapter fifteen David asked, “LORD, who shall abide in your tabernacle? who shall dwell in your holy hill? He that walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart. He that backbites not with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor”, and in Psalms chapter fifteen and verse four David said, “In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honors them that fear the LORD” where we read,
In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honors them that fear the LORD.
He that swears to his own hurt, and changes not.
The verse begins, “In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honors them that fear the LORD.” David began with the words, “In whose eyes” which means “within the physical eyes of the person who will dwell in Jehovah's sacred tabernacle and holy hill” “a vile person” or “a human being whether male or female who is despised, refused and rejected” “is contemned” which means “exists as held in contempt, disdained and rendered worthless”; “but he honors them” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the person glorifies, makes noble and promotes the people” “that fear the LORD” which means “who are morally reverent and in awe of Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David said the person who dwells in the sacred “tabernacle and holy hill” of Jehovah disdain people who are flagrant sinners, and they promote and make noble those who glorify and have reverence for Jehovah God.
The verse continues, “He that swears to his own hurt, and changes not.” David added the words, “He that swears” or “the person who adjures, takes an oath and repeats by declaration” “to his own hurt” which means “to the person's own personal bad, evil, sadness and displeasing”, “and changes not” or “and does not alter, barter or be disposed”. David wrote how the person who dwells in Jehovah's sacred “tabernacle and holy hill” takes on and obeys an oath that causes their own bad or sadness, and they do not alter the outcome even when it incurs results against them.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn more about the person who dwells in Jehovah God's sacred “tabernacle and holy hill”. They treat contemptible people who are wicked and evil with disdain, and they keep their vows even when they cause harm to their own selves. They do not change their minds or alter their commitments when there are adverse consequences. In other words, they keep their vows and their word. God wants people to be in a personal relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind. Anyone who yields to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted eternal life with Him. Afterward, He begins to mold and shape them into people who will dwell in His sacred “tabernacle and holy hill”. Let all praise be given to Jehovah God for His provision for us to live forever with Him.
