In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come you the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah”, and in chapter six and verse eleven of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how the word of the LORD said, “take silver and gold, and make crowns” where we read,
Then take silver and gold, and make crowns,
and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;
The verse reads, “Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, ...” Zechariah began with the words, “then take silver” or “at this time fetch, seize, acquire and bring silver metal” “and gold” which means “and gold metal”, “and make crowns”or “and fashion, produce and bring about wreaths of honor and regard”. Zechariah was instructed to lay hold of “silver and gold metals” and fabricate royal wreaths or “crowns” with them.
The verse goes on to say, “... and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;” Zechariah continued with the words, “and set them upon the head” or “and place, fix, appoint and lay, the crowns upon the summit, top and forefront” “of Joshua” which means “belonging to Joshua whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and was the high priest” “the son of Josedech” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Josedech whose name means Jehovah is righteous and was the grandson of the high priest Hilkiah; son of the high priest Seraiah; and father of the high priest Joshua; he never attained the office of high priest himself because he was carried captive to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar”, “the high priest” which means “the chief, great and eldest spiritual leader known as a priest”. Zechariah shared how he was directed to place the “silver and gold metal crown” upon the “head” of “Joshua” who was the “chief priest” of the people of Israel.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how he was to lay hold of the silver and gold gifts brought to him by the men from Babylon and fabricate a royal crown out of them. This “crown” was to be placed upon the “head” of the “high priest named “Joshua” or Jehovah is Salvation”. This is a prophetic verse in that Jesus, whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation”, Christ is “crowned” as the “King of Kings and Lord of Lords”. He alone is worthy to wear the “silver and golden crown” because He died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be a part of His Kingdom in Heaven forever and ever.
Next time Zechariah shared how the word of the LORD said, “behold the man whose name is The BRANCH”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
