Let Them Return at Evening - Psalms 59:14

In Psalms chapter fifty nine David said, “The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon my enemies. Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by your power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield. For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak. Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God rules in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah”, and in chapter fifty-nine and verse fourteen of Psalms David said, “at evening let them return” where we read,

And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

The verse begins, And at evening let them return; David began with the words, “and at evening” or “and at the sunset, dusk or nighttime” “let them return” which means “allow and permit them, David's enemies, to apostatize, come back, repent”. David appealed to Jehovah God to allow and permit his “enemies” to come back at dusk.

The verse goes on to say,and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. David continued with the words, “and let them make a noise” or “and allow and permit them, David's enemies, to murmur, growl, roar, cry aloud, mourn, rage, be loud and in an uproar” “like a dog” which means “in similar manner and likeness to a contemptible, abase and pagan sacrifice”, “and go round about the city” or “and surround, encircle and encompass the town, dwelling place and habitation”. David beckoned Jehovah God to allow his “enemies” to cry aloud, roar and growl like a contemptible “dog” or pagan who would encircle and surround the dwelling place of David and his compatriots.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David wanted the Divine judge Jehovah God to allow his hating foes to come back and sound off like pagan “dogs” that surround a town. David knew Jehovah God would be his defense, and even though the pagan “dogs” surrounded his dwelling place, no one would be too distant for Jehovah God to reach. God loves people, and He wants them to humble themselves, repent of their sins and yield their lives to His Son Jesus so He can forgive them and grant them everlasting life with Him. When we surrender ourselves to Jesus, He becomes our protector and defense, and we shall give Him praise, honor and glory for all eternity for His wonderful provision.

Next time David says, “let them wander up and down for meat”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
