Waiting Upon the LORD - Psalms 59:9

In Psalms chapter fifty nine David said the heathen, “return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, does hear? But you, O LORD, shall laugh at them; you shall have all the heathen in derision”, and in chapter fifty-nine and verse nine of Psalms David said, “Because of his strength will I wait upon you” where we read,

Because of his strength will I wait upon you: for God is my defense.

The verse begins, Because of his strength will I wait upon you: David began with the words, “because of his strength” or “since and on account of his, Jehovah God's, power, might and majesty” “will I wait upon you” which means “shall I, David, observe, give heed and regard you, Jehovah God”. David said since Jehovah God is powerful and mighty, he would place his hope and expectation in Him.

The verse continues, for God is my defense. David added the words, “for God” or “because, since and on account that the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “is my defense” which means “exists as my, David's, high place, refuge, secure height, retreat and stronghold”. David declared the Divine judge Jehovah God to be his refuge and stronghold.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David said he would give heed to and regard Jehovah God because He was his protection and place of refuge. David knew he had no real security but in God, and he needed no other. God is all-powerful, all-knowing and everywhere present, and He desires to be the defense and protection for everyone who will yield their lives to His Son Jesus. God is more powerful than person, group or activity that opposes us, and when we yield to His Son Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be our strong “defense” whenever opposition rises against us and Him.

Next time David says, “the God of my mercy shall prevent me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
