God Showing People Hard Things - Psalms 60:3

In Psalms chapter sixty David said, “O God, you have cast us off, you have scattered us, you have been displeased; O turn yourself to us again. You have made the earth to tremble; you have broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shakes”, and in chapter sixty and verse three of Psalms David said, “You have showed your people hard things” where we read,

You have showed your people hard things: you have made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

The verse begins, You have showed your people hard things: David began with the words, “you have showed” or “you, Divine judge Jehovah God, have caused to behold and look” “your people” which means “your, Divine judge Jehovah God's, compatriots, country-men, kinsmen and kindred” “hard things” or “cruel, severe, obstinate and difficult things”. David said Jehovah God caused His “people” to observe difficult and cruel “things”.

The verse goes on to say,you have made us to drink the wine of astonishment. David continued with the words, “you have made us to drink” or “you, Divine judge Jehovah God, caused us, David and his compatriots, to imbibe and consume” “the wine of astonishment” which means “the fermented and intoxicating reeling and trembling”. David said Jehovah God caused them to imbibe of the intoxicating “wine” of reeling, trembling and fear.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David believed Jehovah God caused him and his countrymen to encounter difficult circumstances that caused them live in terror and fear. David's encounter with the Syrians made him think God had forsaken them, and we can imagine how a battle such as this would make anyone be afraid. David was not correct in thinking that God abandoned him and his compatriots because God was for David and loved him. God loves us too, and sometimes He allows us to go thru difficulties that make us wonder where He is. God proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be with us “always, even unto the end of the age”. (See Matthew 28:20)

Next time David says, “You have given a banner to them that fear you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
