Hear My Prayer, O God - Psalms 61:1

Psalms chapter sixty-one begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director” “upon Neginah” which means “a taunting or mocking song of music with stringed instruments”, “A Psalm” or “a poem or melody set to notes” “of David” which means “belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Isaiah”, and in chapter sixty-one and verse one of Psalms David said, “hear my cry, O God” where we read,

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.

The verse begins, Hear my cry, O God; David began with the words, “hear my cry” or “understand, give heed, consent and listen to my, David's, ringing entreaty, supplication, proclamation, joy and praise”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. David appealed to the Divine judge Jehovah God to listen to his entreaty and supplication.

The verse continues, attend unto my prayer. David added the word, attendor “be attentive, heed, incline and pay attention” “unto my prayer” which means “to my, David's, intercession which by implication is a hymn”. David beckoned the Divine judge Jehovah God to pay attention to his intercession.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David desired that Jehovah God listen to and incline Himself toward his proclamation and intercession. In other words, David wanted Jehovah God to listen to him while he prayed. God is always aware of our prayers, and He desires to have us humble ourselves, repent of our sins and believe in His Son Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”. When we understand Jesus came into the world to die for our sins and we turn to Him, He will not only hear our prayers, but will also forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. God is listening, so let us give honor, praise and thanksgiving to Him for being available to hear us when we pray.

Next time David says, “From the end of the earth will I cry unto you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
