A Shelter and Strong Tower - Psalms 61:3

In Psalms chapter sixty-one David said, “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto you, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I”, and in chapter sixty-one and verse three of Psalms David said, “you have been a shelter for me, and a strong tower” where we read,

For you have been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

The verse begins, For you have been a shelter for me, ... David began with the words, “for you have been” or “because, since and on account that you, Divine judge Jehovah God, have risen, appeared and existed as” “a shelter for me” which means “a refuge, hope and trust on behalf of me, David”. David said the Divine judge Jehovah God has existed as a refuge and place of hope for him.

The verse continues,... and a strong tower from the enemy. David added the words, and a strong toweror “and a mighty, fortified and powerful castle, rostrum or elevated stage” “from the enemy” which means “separate and apart from the hating foes and adversaries”. David said the Divine judge Jehovah God was his powerful and mighty castle or fortress which kept him protected from his hating adversaries and foes.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David knew Jehovah God was his defense and protection. Though buildings, structures, hiding places and refuges might appear to protect a person, having Jehovah God's provision for protection exceeds them all. God wants to be the defense and provider for every person, and when we yield to His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and become our defense regardless of what comes into our lives. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Almighty God who provides such protection to all who believe in Him.

Next time David says, “I will abide in your tabernacle for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
