A Fair Woman Without Discretion - Proverbs 11:22

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-two of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “a fair woman … without discretion” where we read,

As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.

The verse begins, “As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, ...” Solomon began with the words, “as a jewel of gold” or “in likeness and similar to a precious ornament such as a golden earring or nose-ring” “in a swine's snout” which means “within a hog or wild boar's nose, nostril or face”. Solomon began to share how the following is like a golden nose-ring within the nostril of a hog or pig.

The verse goes on to say, “... so is a fair woman which is without discretion.” Solomon continued with the words, “so is a fair woman” or “even so and indeed, exists a beautiful, comely and pleasant female human being” “which is without discretion” which means “who exists without having taste, judgment, decision or decree”. Solomon said the female human being who exist without any judgment, taste or decree exists like the hog with a nose-ring in his “snout”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how a “woman” who is not discreet and without judgment is like a pig with a golden nose-ring. In other words, it just doesn't fit. God wants to bless us with His judgment and discretion, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His “discretion” so our outer look is not out of discord like a woman who behaves in a manner that is like a pig with a golden nose-ring.
