In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “In the lips of him that has understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding”, and in chapter ten and verse fourteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “wise men lay up knowledge” where we read,
Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
The verse begins, “Wise men lay up knowledge:” Solomon began with the words, “wise men” or “skillful, shrewd and prudent people whether male or female” “lay up knowledge” which means “store, treasure, lurk and hide perception, understanding and wisdom from discovery”. Solomon shared how people who are skillful and shrewd store and treasure understanding and perception.
The verse continues, “but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.” Solomon added the words, “but the mouth” or “however, notwithstanding, nevertheless and moreover the orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “of the foolish” which means “belonging to people who are mocking, quarrelsome and licentious” “is near destruction” or “exists as nigh, neighbor and close to ruin, terror, breaking and dismay”. Solomon said the “mouth” of people who are quarrelsome is very close to terror and ruin.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how people who are skillful and prudent store understanding and treasure perception, however, people who are quarrelsome with their “mouths” are very close to ruin and dismay. God wants us to have His “wisdom”, and He desires that we keep us away from speaking in a quarrelsome manner so we will not experience terror and ruin. (See James 1:5) God loves us, and when we receive His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to treasure His understanding and wisdom for every circumstance in our lives.
Next time Solomon says, “the rich man's wealth is his strong city”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
