In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “the desire of the righteous is only good” where we read,
The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
The verse begins, “The desire of the righteous is only good:” Solomon began with the words, “the desire” or “the wish, delight and appetite” “of the righteous” which means “belonging to people who are right, just, lawful and correct” “is only good” or “exists as solely and surely merriment, prosperity, wealth, beauty and favor”. Solomon shared how the delight and appetite of people who are right and just exists as solely merriment, wealth and favor.
The verse continues, “but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.” Solomon added the words, “but the expectation” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the hope” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “is wrath” or “exists as outpouring, overflowing and excess of fury, arrogance, outburst and anger”. Solomon said the hope of people who are evil and hostile to God is overflowing anger and fury.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that there is a difference between the passion of “righteous” people and the hope of people who are evil and live as enemies of God. God wants us to experience His “good”, and He wants us keep away from overflowing fury. God loves us, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He made a way for us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and to enjoy the “desire of the righteous” for that which is “only good”.
Next time Solomon says, “there is that scatters, and yet increases”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
