In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The labor of the righteous tends to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin”, and in chapter ten and verse seventeen of Proverbs Solomon said, “he is in the way of life that keeps instructions” where we read,
He is in the way of life that keeps instruction: but he that refuses reproof errs.
The verse begins, “He is in the way of life that keeps instruction:” Solomon began with the words, “he is in the way of life” or “he, the person whether male or female, who exists within the path, road, manner and passing of life” “that keeps instruction” which means “who guards, observes and retains discipline, chastening and correction”. Solomon shared how the person who watches over and observes chastening and discipline exists within the path of active and fresh living.
The verse goes on to say, “but he that refuses reproof errs.” Solomon continued with the words, “but he that refuses reproof” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the person whether male or female who leaves, looses, forsakes and departs from correction, punishment and chiding” “errs” which means “wanders, goes astray, staggers and misleads”. Solomon said the person who rejects and departs from correction goes astray and is mislead.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is a great benefit to watching over and observing the discipline and correction of Jehovah God, however, the person who rejects God's chastening goes astray and wanders into error and wrong. God gave us His word, the Bible, so we may have His “instruction” for living, and when we reject His words, we pay the price for disobedience. God loves us, and He gave His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us by His Holy Spirit according to His perfect plan and purpose for our lives. (See John 16:13)
Next time Solomon shares about, “lying lips and uttering slander”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
