In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He that hides hatred with lying lips, and he that utters a slander, is a fool”, and in chapter ten and verse nineteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “in the multitude of words there wants not sin” where we read,
In the multitude of words there wants not sin: but he that refrains his lips is wise.
The verse begins, “In the multitude of words there wants not sin:” Solomon began with the words, “in the multitude of words” or “within the great, numerous and abundant amount of speaking, proclaiming and declaring” “there wants not sin” which means “there is no lack, desisting, foregoing or forbearance for error, wrong, mistakes, rebellion and transgression”. Solomon shared how error and wrong accompanies the person who employs an abundance of “proclamations and declarations”.
The verse goes on to say, “but he that refrains his lips is wise.” Solomon continued with the words, “but he that refrains his lips” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover he, the person whether male or female, who withholds, keeps in check and reserves their lips used for speaking” “is wise” which means “exists as skillful, shrewd and prudent”. Solomon said the person who withholds their “lips” used for speaking exists as skillful and shrewd.
When we meditate upon Solomon words in this verse, we learn how an abundant use of “words” causes error and wrong to enter our lives, and when we restrain ourselves from speaking, we are skillful and prudent. God loves us, and He gave us our ability to speak. He wants us to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to use our “words” in prudent ways so we avoid sinful and unnecessary speaking.
Next time Solomon says, “the tongue of the just is as choice silver”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
