The Lips of the Righteous - Proverbs 10:21

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “the lips of the righteous feed many” where we read,

The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

The verse begins, “The lips of the righteous feed many: Solomon began with the words, “the lips of the righteous” or “the physical lips used for speaking belonging to the just, correct and lawful” feed many which means “pastures, nourishes and makes friendship with a multitude and abundant amount of people”. Solomon shared how the “lips” used for speaking of people who are lawful and just nourishes an abundant amount of others.

The verse goes on to say, “but fools die for want of wisdom.” Solomon continued with the words, “but fools die” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover people who despise wisdom and mock when guilty are put to death or killed” “for want of wisdom” which means “on behalf of the void, lack and need for skill, shrewdness and prudence”. Solomon said people who are mocking and quarrelsome perish because of their lack of skill, shrewdness and prudence.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the words spoken by the “lips” of people are who are lawful and just are valuable, and we discover how people who are quarrelsome come to perish because of their contentiousness. God wants us to be open to receive His “wisdom”, and we become wise when we accept His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we believe in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us His “wise” ways so we may nourish numerous people with our words.

Next time Solomon says, “the blessing of the LORD, it makes rich”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
